Gone are the days of waiting for physical x-ray films to be developed in a dark room
Truly game-changing technology allowing for more patient comfort and faster data acquisition
There are always new materials and techniques that become available with time.

You may remember the days of having x-rays taken of your teeth, waiting 5-10minutes before the results became available, and finding out they were no good and new ones had to be taken. With digital x-rays, they show up on the computer within seconds, and the amount of radiation is drastically reduced compared to those needed for conventional film, up to 80-90% LESS! That said, even though they're really safe now, we still don't want to take any unnecessary ones!

We've always been told to smile for the camera, right? Sometimes we even show our teeth for photos. Well, whose idea was it to take 2000 photos of teeth per minute? That's what 3D Scanning does, it takes those tens of thousands of photos taken and constructs a model of your teeth in 3D. It turns out 3D scans are more accurate than making impressions of your teeth. These 3D scans can then be sent electronically to a dental laboratory for night guards, crowns, and sometimes dentures, to be made.

While scientists are still trying to regrow teeth (good luck to them!), clinicians are looking for new ways of helping us love and keep our natural teeth for longer. New conservative techniques aim to maintain as much tooth structure as possible without as much drilling, filling, and, of course, billing. For example, is there a way to stop tooth decay that already started? Turns out there is a way. In 2017, Health Canada approved the use of Silver Diamine Fluoride in Canada. It is a topical medicament applied to areas of decay, which has been used with success for decades in other countries. It has been shown clinically to stop tooth decay. While there are conditions for its usage, it definitely offers up another way of dealing with a cavity which would otherwise need a filling, particularly in young children. Ask our doctors if this is a good option for you or your loved one!
